WHO WE ARE:

Beyond the Bridge was built to cover U.P. sports the way they should be told

For years, U.P. high school sports have been overlooked — reduced to box scores and brief recaps, missing the stories that truly define them.

We set out to change that.

Beyond The Bridge showcases the uniqueness of the U.P., taking you inside the programs, communities, and moments that deserve to be seen and felt.

Think The Athletic meets ESPN — with a U.P. edge.

THE STORY

I was born and raised in the Upper Peninsula and attended Ishpeming High School. My father was part of Ishpeming’s 1975 state championship.

From an early age, I was immersed in what makes U.P. sports different.

Even as a kid, I understood that trips “below the bridge” weren’t just road games — they meant something. Playing Lower Peninsula teams carried a different energy, a different standard, and a clear sense of what it meant to represent the U.P. on a bigger stage.

Long before I could fully explain it, I knew “U.P. power” wasn’t just a phrase.

It was an identity.

Beyond The Bridge started as a simple idea on December 26, 2025 — to tell the stories that matter.

But the more I dug, the more one thought kept coming back:

Why hasn’t anyone told these stories?

NOW? THEY DO.
